Are you ready for a DL class?
If you are not able to truthfully answer "YES" to all of the following questions,
a distance learning class might not be the best possible way for you to learn
this material.
Study Skills:
Having fact-to-face interaction with my instructors and fellow students
is not particularly important to me.
I would classify myself as someone who has good organizational skills and
often completes assignments ahead of time.
When an instructor hands out directions for an assignment, I prefer figuring
out the directions myself, then asking for help as needed.
Considering my professional and personal schedule, the amount of time I
have to work on a distance learning course is at least 6 hours per week.
My reading skills are excellent, and I understand most of what I read.
Feeling a part of the class and talking with my classmates is not necessary
for me.
I prefer my instructor to give me feedback on assignments within a week.
When given the choice of working independently or in a group, I prefer to
work independently.
Having the freedom to choose, day-to-day, when I work on assignments and
when I study is very important to me.
When it comes to expressing myself, I can express myself equally in writing
or verbally.
Computer Skills:
I can open a file from a floppy disk and save it on a hard drive and vice
versa.
I can cut, copy and paste text both within an application and between multiple
open applications.
I can create, copy, move, rename and delete file folders.
I can send, open, forward and reply to email and discussion messages.
I can send, receive and open email and discussion attachments.
I can install software.
I can use a word processing program such as Microsoft Word.
I know how to reload a page in a web browser.
I know how to clear the cache or temporary internet files in a web browser.
I know how to make a bookmark/favorite in a web browser.
